Tech Note: Get Rid Of ICQ Ads
Anyone who uses the chat program ICQ has grumbled over the annoying ad banners that clutter up the various windows. Always something moving on the screen, distracting like hell. I just found an excellent Polish hack that gets rid of the ads and the boxes they come in! And according to my system protection software, it doesn't involve any malware. (Via Subtitles.)

An even better solution: ditch the standard ICQ client entirely and use Gaim instead. As an extra bonus you can talk MSN, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber/GoogleTalk and more from within the same client. And it's free!
Or Miranda. No frills, no emoticons, no animations, no bull.
Gaim works well but is really ugly and takes a lot of unnecessary screen real-estate. I'll give Miranda a shot.
I prefer Trillian when using Windows, and Adium (mac) isn't that bad at all.
